Abstract |
Objective s: Chronic subdural hematoma is common in elderly individuals. We analysed the chronic subdural hematoma
in individuals aged over 70.
Methods A total of 50 patients with chronic subdural hematoma underwent surgery at our institution during last
three years. Of these, 38 patients were treated with burr hole drainage, and 12 patients with craniotomy and removal
of hematoma.
Results The fronto-temporo-parietal involvement was the most common pattern in our series. Recurrence was
observed in 2 cases in the craniotomy group. There were no recurred cases in the burr hole drainage group.
Conclusion In older age group (over 70 years), burr hole drainage treatment of the chronic subdural hematoma
is considered as a sufficient surgical method for good outcome. |
