Abstract |
Objective To determine the safety of stent-assisted coil embolization in elderly patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs).
Methods The present study included 37 patients who underwent stent-assisted coil embolization for UIAs. The patients were divided into two groups according to the result of post procedural diffusion image, Diffusion image positive (DIP) versus non-DIP group. Baseline features, aneurysm characteristics and coil procedure were retrospectively reviewed.
Results Overall incidence of DIP and symptomatic ischemic complication was 21% and 3% each, respectively. There was no significant difference between the patient’s comorbidity, aneurysm characteristics and coil techniques.
Conclusion The results of this study suggest that stent-assisted coil embolization is relatively safe in elderly patients with UIAs. However, additional clinical data are necessary. |
