Abstract
Objective
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the risk factors of growing hematoma between two patient age groups (group A ≤65 and group B>65 years) with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).
Methods
A series of 83 ICH patients diagnosed by brain computed tomography (CT) scan in our neurosurgery department from January 2010 to November 2013 were reviewed with clinical status, past medical histories, laboratory findings, CT findings and other prognosis factors.
Results
There were 25 patients older than 65 years and 58 patients younger than 65 years. In elderly group, patients (32.0%), the second CT scan showed an enlarged hematoma. In young group, patients (29.3 %), the second CT scan showed an enlarged hematoma. Ages were not related to hematoma growing. Initial high sugar level is higher in hematoma growing group. Hematoma shape, antithrombolytics was not associated with hematoma. ICH hematoma growing group is higher mortality than stable group.
Conclusion
Patient’ age are not associated with hematoma growing. Initial glucose level is higher in hematoma growing in younger age group. Higher mortaility was expected in ICH hematoma growing patients. Antithorombolytic therapy is not significant factor affecting ICH growing in this study.
